HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 12/06/2016 - PROCLAMATION DECLARING DECEMBER 6, 2016, AS THE OFPROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the air quality of Fort Collins affects the health and well-being of all the residents of the Northern Front Range region; and WHEREAS, one in four families in the City of Fort Collins reports a family member with a respiratory ailment, and car exhaust can worsen asthma symptoms and lung functioning; and WHEREAS, idling one gasoline vehicle for 5 minutes a day for a year can produce the same amount of harmful air pollutants and carbon dioxide as more than 1,000 miles of driving; and WHEREAS, encouraging drivers to avoid unnecessary idling by turning off their engines can decrease toxic emissions that contribute to ground level ozone and other health problems; and WHEREAS, in recognition of the multiple benefits of reducing vehicle idling, it is the adopted policy of the City of Fort Collins to limit City vehicle idling to no more than 30 consecutive seconds, or no more than 5 minutes total in any 1 hour, with certain exceptions; and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins has developed partnerships with the Poudre School District and the Northern Colorado Clean Cities organization to unite governments, schools, businesses and residents in a voluntary effort to increase education, reduce harmful emissions associated with idling, and improve regional air quality. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Wade Troxell, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim December 6, 2016 as the official start of the “YOU HOLD THE KEY, BE IDLE FREE” ANTI-IDLING CAMPAIGN IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort Collins this 6th day of December, A.D. 2016. __________________________________ Mayor ATTEST: _________________________________ City Clerk
