SUBJECT:
Resolution 2001-67 Increasing the City's Representation on the City of Fort Collins/Colorado State
University Liaison Committee.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends adoption of the Resolution.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
In December 1998,the City Council endorsed the establishment of a City of Fort Collins/Colorado
State University Liaison Committee,consisting of two Councilmembers;the City Manager and such
administrative staff of the City as the City Manager may deem appropriate; the President of CSU;
the President of ASCSU; the Vice-President for Administrative Services; the Vice-President for
lip University Advancement; and the Director of Campus Housing and Food Services.
On April 17,2001, the Council adopted Resolution 2001-63 making board and commission liaison
assignnments and various committee, board, and authority appointments. As a part of that
Resolution, the Council appointed Ray Martinez, Marty Tharp, and Bill Bertschy to serve as
representatives on the City/CSU Liaison Committee. Since the original Resolution establishing the
Committee provided for the appointment of two, rather than three, Councilmembers, staff is
recommending Council adopt a Resolution formally providing for the appointment of up to three
Councilmembers as representatives on the City/CSU Liaison Committee and ratifying the
appointments made on April 17.
RESOLUTION 2001-67
OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
INCREASING THE CITY'S REPRESENTATION ON THE
CITY OF FORT COLLINS/COLORADO
STATE UNIVERSITY LIAISON COMMITTEE
WHEREAS,the City and Colorado State University("CSU")have historically dealt with a
number of issues of mutual interest, including land use, utility and transportation services, the
enforcement of municipal ordinances, human rights, and a wide variety of other topics; and
WHEREAS,the need for close cooperation and collaboration between the City and CSU with
regard to these kinds of issues is an ongoing one; and
WHEREAS,the City Council has previously determined that it is in the best interests of the
citizens of the City to have a formal committee to facilitate ongoing, close communication among
the policy makers and administrative staff of the City and the administration, faculty and students
of CSU; and
WHEREAS,on December 1, 1998,by adoption of Resolution 98-159,the Council endorsed
the establishment of a City of Fort Collins/CSU Liaison Committee (the "Committee"), consisting
of two Councilmembers; the City Manager and such administrative staff of the City as the City
Manager may deem appropriate;the President of CSU;the President of ASCSU;the Vice-President
for Administrative Services; the Vice-President for University Advancement and the Director of
Campus Housing and Food Services; and
WHEREAS,on April 17,2001,the Council adopted Resolution 2001-63 making board and
commission liaison assignments and various committee, board and authority appointments; and
WHEREAS,as a part of said Resolution,Council appointed Ray Martinez,Marty Tharp,and
Bill Bertschy to serve as representatives on the Committee,which appointments exceed the number
of representatives previously established in Resolution 98-159; and
WHEREAS, the Council wishes to formally provide for the appointment of up to three
representatives from this point forward.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS as follows:
Section 1. That the City's representation on the City of Fort Collins/CSU Liaison
Committee shall consist of up to three Councilmembers;the City Manager and such administrative
staff of the City as the City Manager may deem appropriate.
Section 2. That the appointment of Ray Martinez,Marty Tharp,and Bill Bertschy to the
. Committee on April 17, 2001 by adoption of Resolution 2001-63 is hereby ratified.
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council held this 1st day of May,A.D.
