HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 03/05/2013 - PROCLAMATION DECLARING MARCH 31-APRIL 6, 2013 AS FPROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the organization, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, or FIRST, actively encourages the next generation to be leaders in the fields of science and technology; and WHEREAS, FIRST promotes an atmosphere of gracious professionalism and cooperative competition amongst its FIRST Lego League, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST Robotics Competition teams, as well as in the community; and WHEREAS, the mentor relationships built through participation in FIRST programs benefit both students and mentors, and promote intra-community bonds that serve to strengthen ties between education and industry; and WHEREAS, the experiences that students acquire through FIRST programs stay with them their whole lives, often guiding them to continue to higher education and careers in science and technology which will help to improve our community and world; and WHEREAS, the achievements of all FIRST teams in Fort Collins, including, but not limited to The Highlanders, Ridgebotics, and Alpine Robotics are a credit to the community, and deserve recognition. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Karen Weitkunat, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim March 31 to April 6, 2013 as NATIONAL FIRST WEEK in Fort Collins, as a recognition of the importance of the FIRST Fort Collins community and call upon our citizens to recognize and support local FIRST teams’ competitions on April 4-6 at Magness Arena in Denver and on April 24-27 in St. Louis.
