HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 06/05/2001 - PROCLAMATION PROCLAIMING JUNE 15 AND 16, 2001 AS R Mayor 5t City of Fort Collins PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, nearly every one of us is touched by cancer--yourself, a loved one, a coworker, a neighbor or a friend; and WHEREAS, it is estimated that about 7.4 million Americans have a history of cancer; and WHEREAS, in 1930 only 20 percent of those who developed cancer survived-- today nearly 53 percent are cured; and WHEREAS, theAmerican Cancer Society's mission is to eliminate cancer as a major health problem through research, education, advocacy and services; and WHEREAS, the Latimer County community and theAmerican Cancer Society have teamed together in the annual Relay for Life, an 18-hour noncompetitive team relay event, and WHEREAS, the Relay for Life will be held June 15 and 16 at Rocky Mountain High School's French Field. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Martinez, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim June 15 and 16, 2001 as RELAY FOR LIFE DAYS in the city of Fort Collins and urge the community to participate in this event which will provide an opportunity to honor cancer survivors, reflect on those who have lost the battle to cancer, and to raise funds to support local programs in education, advocacy and patient services.
