Since radon is an airborne pollutant of local concern, the City provides a voluntary program to teach builders how to install radon mitigation systems, and encourages residents to test radon levels in their homes. The City has applied for and received funds from the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment ("CDPHE") for these education and mitigation projects. (This is the seventh year in a row that CDPHE funding has been used in Fort Collins' radon program.) Funds were reimbursed in late 2001 and deposited into the General Fund, and are now being appropriated for Natural Resources' use.
