HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - AGENDA ITEM - 04/09/2013 - RESOLUTION 2013-031 EXPRESSING GRATITUDE AND APPRERESOLUTION 2013-031 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS EXPRESSING GRATITUDE AND APPRECIATION TO KELLY OHLSON FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY AS MAYOR PRO TEM AND COUNCILMEMBER WHEREAS, Kelly Ohlson was elected to the City Council on April 5, 2005 for a second time, having served on City Council from April 12, 1983 until March 10, 1987, and as Mayor from March 3, 1986 until March 10, 1987; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ohlson took office for the second time on April 19, 2005, and was reelected on April 7, 2009, serving two consecutive terms through April 9, 2013; and WHEREAS, Kelly Ohlson has served as Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Fort Collins for three terms from April 10, 2007, through April 9, 2013; and WHEREAS, during this tenure, Mayor Pro Tem Ohlson has served on the Ethics Review Board and as the Council liaison to the Building Review Board, the Parks and Recreation Board, and the Zoning Board of Appeals; and WHEREAS, Mayor Pro Tem Ohlson has ably represented the City on the Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors, the Finance Committee, the Legislative Review Committee, and the Public Safety Planning and Funding Committee, and in numerous other capacities; and WHEREAS, Mayor Pro Tem Ohlson served on the Natural Resources Advisory Board, the Citizen Budget Committee, the first City Plan Advisory Committee, and the Building Community Choices Citizen’s Committee and three terms as Larimer County Public Trustee; and WHEREAS, Mayor Pro Tem Ohlson received Etown’s National E-chievement Award in 2008 for his decades of work protecting open space and natural areas, and received the first Founder’s Award from the Fort Collins Conventions and Visitors Bureau in 2010; and WHEREAS, Mayor Pro Tem Ohlson received the State of Colorado Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 for his work to significantly further recycling and reduce solid waste in Colorado; and WHEREAS, throughout his terms in office, Mayor Pro Tem Ohlson has been a strong advocate for the residents and neighborhoods of Fort Collins and the environmental sustainability of the community; and WHEREAS, Mayor Pro Tem Ohlson has exemplified the qualities of a leader and has demonstrated his commitment to this community through his many years of service and his preservation efforts of natural areas and our community’s history. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the City expresses its sincere appreciation and gratitude to Kelly Ohlson for his service and contributions to the community as Mayor Pro Tem and District 5 Councilmember. Passed and adopted at a special meeting of the Council of the City of Fort Collins this 9th day of April A.D. 2013. Mayor ATTEST: City Clerk
