HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 04/16/2013 - PROCLAMATION DECLARING MAY 2, 2013 AS THE NATIONALPROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the authors of the Declaration of Independence recognized “That all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness;” and WHEREAS, the National Day of Prayer, established in 1954 and defined by President Ronald Reagan as the first Thursday in May, provides Americans with the chance to congregate in celebration of these endowed rights; and WHEREAS, each citizen has the freedom to gather, the freedom to worship, and the freedom to pray, whether in public or private; and WHEREAS, the 2013 theme is “Pray for America” inspired by Matthew 12:21 “in His name the nations will put their hope”; and WHEREAS, the history of this great nation is indelibly marked with the role that prayer has played in the lives of individual Americans; and WHEREAS, the President, Governors, Mayors and our spiritual leaders are calling our nation to pray; and WHEREAS, all citizens from the Fort Collins area are invited to participate; and WHEREAS, this year’s observance includes a Prayer Breakfast at the Fort Collins Hilton Hotel on Thursday May 2nd, from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Karen Weinkunat, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim Thursday, May 2, 2013, as the NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort Collins this 16th day of April, A.D. 2013. __________________________________ Mayor ATTEST: _________________________________ City Clerk
