This Ordinance appropriates grant funds received by the City for the Larimer County Drug Task
Force from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. These funds are to be used to fund the investigation
of illegal narcotics activities in Larimer County.
BACKGROUND
The Larimer County Drug Task Force(the"Drug Task Force")consists of representatives from Fort
Collins Police Services, Loveland Police Department, Larimer County Sheriff's Department, Estes
Park Police Department and the Colorado State University Police Department.
Fort Collins Police Services ("FCPS") applied to the Bureau of Justice Assistance on behalf of the
Drug Task Force for federal grant monies to help fund the investigation of illegal narcotics activities
in Larimer County. As the grant administrator, FCPS will ensure funding to other participating
agencies for their share of the federal funds.
October 16, 2007 -2- Item No. 10
The Bureau of Justice Assistance notified the City that the first grant award will be $81,452. The
grant will be used to provide funds for undercover drug purchases, equipment and training. The
Bureau of Justice Assistance notified the City that a second grant award will be$85,500. This grant
will be used to fund a confidential off-site lease agreement with the City of Fort Collins and daily
operational expenses of the assigned Estes Park Police Department investigator position.
This appropriation ordinance is not a request to identify new dollars for FCPS 2007 budget;instead
it appropriates the two federal grants, $81,452 and $85,500, in new federal grant money.
