HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 10/02/2012 - PROCLAMATION DECLARING OCTOBER AS ARTS AND HUMANITPROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the month of October has been recognized as National Arts and Humanities Month by thousands of arts and cultural organizations, communities, and states across the country, as well as by the White House and Congress for more than two decades; and WHEREAS, the arts and humanities embody much of the accumulated wisdom, intellect, and imagination of humankind; and WHEREAS, the arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives of every American; and WHEREAS, the arts and humanities play a unique role in the lives of our families, our communities, and our country; and WHEREAS, the Americans for the Arts: Arts & Economic Prosperity IV study findings, released in 2012, found that the nonprofit arts industry in Fort Collins generates over $19 million in economic activity, a 20% increase from the study’s 2007 findings. The nonprofit arts industry supports over 500 full-time equivalent jobs, generates $11.8 million in household income to local residents, and returns $1.8 million in state and local government revenue; and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins’ support of the arts not only enhances the City’s quality of life, but is an investment in our economic well being. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Karen Weitkunat, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins do hereby proclaim October as ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTH in Fort Collins, Colorado and call upon our citizens to celebrate and promote the arts and culture, and to specifically encourage greater participation by those said citizens in taking action for the arts and humanities in Fort Collins.
