Ci of Fort Collins PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States says that we are one nation under God
and
WHEREAS, America has gone its own way and strayed away from being one nation under God's
authority as evidenced by serious current social and moral problems; and
WHEREAS, the theme for this year's National Day of Prayer is "America United Under God"and we
desire to repent and humbly ask God to forgive us from turning from Him and express our desire to come back
under His authority; and
WHEREAS, the history of this great nation is indelibly marked with the role that prayer has played in
the lives of individual Americans; and
WHEREAS, the National Day of Prayer is a tradition which dates back to the year 1775, when the event
was first,oroclaimed by the Continental Congress; and
WHEREAS, this year marks the 51 st consecutive observance of the National Day of Prayer; and
WHEREAS, the President, Governors,Mayors and our spiritual leaders are calling our nation to pray;
and
WHEREAS, this year's observance will begin with a prayer breakfast at the University Park Holiday
Inn from 7:00-8:30 a.m. and conclude in the Fort Collins City Park with children praying for community
emergency service providers from 5:00-6:00 p.m.followed by citizens praying for our nation, state, and city.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Martinez, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim May 2,
2002 as
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
in the city,of Fort Collins.
IT;WITNESS WHEREOF,I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort Collins this 16th
day of April, A.D. 2002.
