WHEREAS, the Fort Collins community supports children of all abilities; and
WHEREAS, child care is a critical service in the continuum of care that allows children with
disabilities to remain in their homes under their parents’ care; and
WHEREAS, Respite Care provides care and support to children with developmental
disabilities up to age 21 and provides respite to their families, enabling them to enhance their quality
of life; and
WHEREAS, Respite Care believes that a child with a disability is a child first and his or her
challenges are secondary; and
WHEREAS, Respite Care strives to create an interactive, stimulating and safe environment
that addresses the physical, emotional, social and mental needs of each individual child.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Karen Weitkunat, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim May 1, 2012 as
RESPITE CARE, INC. DAY
and urge our community to come together to participate in giving faith, hope, love, and commitment
to all our children. I encourage everyone to educate themselves about the services Respite Care
provides by touring the Respite Care home.
