HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 05/17/2011 - PROCLAMATION DECLARING MAY 2011 AS WOMENS WELLNESSPROCLAMATION WHEREAS, National Women’s Health Week is celebrated during the week of May 8, 2011 through May 14, 2011; and WHEREAS, National Women’s Health Week is coordinated by the United States Department of Health and Human Services and the Office on Women’s Health; and WHEREAS, National Women’s Checkup Day was May 9, 2011. The day is designated to encourage women to visit health care professionals to receive or schedule a check-up; and WHEREAS, National Women’s Health Week promotes women’s wellness, regular check- ups and screenings, physical activity, healthy eating, adequate sleep, smoking cessation and mental health for all women; and WHEREAS, women are often the caregivers for their spouses, children and parents, and forget to focus on their own health and research shows that, when women take care of themselves, the health of their whole family improves; and WHEREAS, National Women’s Health Week’s theme, “It’s Your Time”, empowers women to make their health a top priority and take simple steps for a longer, healthier and happier life. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Karen Weitkunat, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, proclaim the week of May 8 through May 14, 2011 as NATIONAL WOMEN’S HEALTH WEEK and encourage the citizens of Fort Collins to celebrate women’s health, and remind women that taking care of themselves is essential to living longer, healthier, and happier lives.
