HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 05/06/2003 - PROCLAMATION PROCLAIMING MAY 16-18, 2003, AS ALZHE Mayor City of Fort Collins PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, one in 10 persons over the age of 65 and nearly half of those over the age of 85 have Alzheimer's disease, and a small percentage ofpeople in their 30s and 40s get the disease; and WHEREAS,persons with Alzheimer's disease live an average of eight years and as many as 20 years or more from the onset of symptoms; and WHEREAS,Alzheimer's disease and related dementias are debilitating illnessesfor individuals,their families, and caregivers; with millions Americans affected by the disease physically, emotionally, and financially; and WHEREAS,Alzheimer's disease affects four million Americans, including more than 8,500 in northern Colorado, more than 61,000 statewide and one out offour families nationally; and WHEREAS, the Alzheimer's Association Rocky Mountain Chapter has been an heroic nonprofit organization since 1980 providing education programs and support services for thousands of families in • Colorado; and perseveres to find the cause,prevention, and cure for this devastating disease; and WHEREAS, it is fitting to commend the Alzheimer's Association Rocky Mountain Chapter in all its efforts to assist individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related demential,their families,and caregivers,and in its untiring efforts to find this disease's cause,prevention, and cure; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Martinez, Mayor of the city of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim the weekend of May 16-18, 2003, as ALZBELMER'SAWARENESS WEEKEND in the city of Fort Collins and urge the citizens of Fort Collins to honor and celebrate this special event, including the enjoyment of the Memories in the Making artwork on exhibit during these dates.
