HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 04/15/2003 - PROCLAMATION PROCLAIMING MAY 1, 2003, AS NATIONAL Mayor nm�ni) City of Fort Collins PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States says that we are ". . .one nation under God"; and WHEREAS,America has gone its own way and strayed away from being one nation under God's authority, as evidenced by serious current social and moral problems; and WHEREAS,the themefor thisyear's NationalDay ofPrayer is "Righteousness Exalts a Nation" and we desire to repent and humbly ask God to forgive us for all actions that dishonor God; and WHEREAS, the history of this great nation is indelibly marked with the role that prayer has played in the lives of individual Americans; and WHEREAS, the National Day of Prayer is a tradition which dates back to the year 1775, when the event was first proclaimed by the Continental Congress; and WHEREAS,this year marks the 52nd consecutive observance ofthe National Day ofPrayer;and • WHEREAS, the President, Governors, Mayors and our spiritual leaders are calling our nation to pray; and WHEREAS, this year's observance begins with a prayer breakfast at the University Park Holiday Inn from 7:00-8:30 a.m.,followed by a mid-day observance on the west side of the Larimer County Justice Center from 12:10-12:40 p.m.,and concludes in the Fort Collins City Park from 6:00- 7:30 p.m. with individuals and families praying for our nation, state, and city. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Martinez, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim May 1, 2003 as NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER in the city of Fort Collins.
