HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 03/15/2011 - PROCLAMATION DECLARING MARCH 15, 2011 AS BRAIN INJ F6Cirt Collins PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the Fort Collins community supports the dignity and quality of life of our citizens; and WHEREAS, traumatic brain injuries among Americans result in over 100,000 deaths and 500,000 permanent disabilities each year as a result of accidents,domestic violence and child abuse, and athletic injuries; and WHEREAS,Americans making the ultimate personal and family sacrifice through military service to ensure the security of our nation are placed at extreme risk of traumatic brain injuries;and WHEREAS, individualized, compassionate rehabilitation services play a critical role in helping survivors of traumatic brain injuries to re-learn life skills and regain the ability to live independently; and WHEREAS, Shared Journeys Brain Injury Foundation is dedicated to engaging the public in understanding and supporting the challenges TBI survivors and their families face,and is working to provide future non-profit, rehabilitative and transitional living resources to effectively restore lives. NOW,THEREFORE,I,Doug Hutchinson,Mayor of the City of Fort Collins,do hereby proclaim March 15, 2011 as BRAIN INJURY AWARENESS DAY to recognize the importance of awareness, prevention and accessibility of rehabilitative care for individuals and families whose lives are impacted by traumatic brain injuries. I encourage our friends,neighbors,the media,and public and private organizations to take the time to understand the risks and prevention factors of traumatic brain injuries and to acknowledge the important role Shared Journeys Brain Injury Foundation plays in providing compassionate,accessible service to survivors of traumatic brain injuries.
