WORK SESSION
March 8, 2011
6 p.m.
1. Call Meeting to Order.
2. Dr. Tony Frank, President of Colorado State University. (30,minute presentation)
3: Transportation Update: 2011 Street Maintenance and Capital Projects. (staff. Karen
Cumbo; 30 minute discussion)
The infusion of new funding from Keep Fort Collins Great (2B), combined with existing
revenues and new grant awards, has created opportunities for increased transportation
maintenance and capital construction projects. This funding allows the City to address
many long overdue maintenance, safety and capacity needs on roads, intersections,
bridges, sidewalks and bike lanes. This presentation provides an overview of
transportation maintenance and capital projects scheduled for 2011.
4. Economic Health Update. (staff: Mike Freeman, Josh Birks, Christina Vincent; 30
minute discussion)
The overall economic health goal is to "promote a healthy, sustainable economy
reflecting the values of our unique community in a changing world." The City has strong
partnerships with diverse organizations, strategic marketing and promotion of the area to
new and expanding businesses, and the City continues to focus on retaining and growing
quality primary jobs while also focusing on retaining and building the retail sector.
The greatest task slated for 2011 will-be the update to the Economic Action Plan. It has
been several years since the last update was completed and the economic climate has
changed in that timeframe. The current economic strategies continue to serve the City
well, but it is time to critically evaluate the current strategy and map out the City's next
steps. The City has faced challenges such as broad economic slowdown, decrease in
sales tax collections, decrease in use tax collections, and financing difficulties for
developers. Through the voter approved Keep Fort Collins Great Ballot measure, there
are now funds available for the update of the Economic Action Plan.
5. Other Business.
6. Adjournment.
