City of Fort Collins PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the month of October has been recognized as National Arts and Humanities
Month by thousands of arts and cultural organizations, communities, and states across the country,
as well as by the White House and Congress for more than two decades; and
WHEREAS,the arts and humanities affect every aspect of life in America today,including
the economy, social problem solving,job creation,education,creativity, and community livability;
and
WHEREAS, the arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives of all Americans; and
WHEREAS,the nonprofit arts industry also strengthens our economyby generating$166.2
billion in economic activity annually and by supporting the full-time equivalent of 5.7 million jobs;
and
WHEREAS,the United States Conference of Mayors has actively participated in National
Arts and Humanities Month since 1984; and
WHEREAS, through the efforts of the many local arts and cultural groups, Fort Collins
appreciates and experiences the value and importance of culture in the lives of its citizens; and
WHEREAS, Fort Collins boasts 80 plus arts and cultural organizations, more than 25 art
galleries and museums, and 20 arts and cultural festivals, and the arts annually return over $15.9
million to the local economy.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Doug Hutchinson, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim the month of October 2007 as
NATIONAL ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTH
in Fort Collins and urge Fort Collins residents to participate in and to celebrate the cultural riches
our community has to offer.
