WHEREAS, American women have played and continue to play a critical role in every
sphere of our nation's life; and
WHEREAS, American women of every age, race, class and ethnic background served as
early leaders in the forefront of every major progressive social change movement, not only to secure
their own right of suffrage and equal opportunity, but also in the abolitionist movement, the
emancipation movement, the labor union movement, the fight for education, the modern civil rights
movement and today in the drive for health care for all; and

overlooked and undervalued in the body of American history; and

reveal that women of early Fort Collins were visionaries, business leaders, community builders, free
spirits, mothers, and more. Using courage and good humor, they contributed to the vision of Fort
Collins as the thriving community that it is today.
