PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS,National Work Zone Awareness Week was established in 1999 by the Federal
Highway Administration to emphasize the importance of safety issues in work zones across the
United States; and
WHEREAS,National Work Zone Awareness Week falls each year in April to coincide with
the onset of road construction season; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of National Work Zone Awareness Week is to raise public
awareness of the danger that workers experience in work zones; and
WHEREAS,more than 40,000 people are injured and 1000 are killed each year as a result
of motor vehicle crashes in work zones; and
WHEREAS,the recognition of National Work Zone Awareness Week by local communities
helps to promote safe practices throughout local roadway projects and encourages citizens to respect
the importance of designated work zones.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Doug Hutchinson, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim April 19-23, 2010 as
NATIONAL WORK ZONE AWARENESS WEEK
in the city of Fort Collins.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort
