RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends adoption of this Ordinance on Second Reading. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The City was awarded$155,383 from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Institute of Museum and Library Services for consultants in the preparation of a move plan to relocate the Museum's Archival and Artifact Collections to the new museum facility. This Ordinance, unanimously adopted on First Reading on September 15, 2009,appropriates that grant money in the Museum's Collections grant project. ATTACHMENTS 1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY On December 2, 2008, the Fort Collins Museum received written notice that it had been awarded a $5,711 Preservation Assistance'Gr nt from the Nat'ional�Endow rent for the Humanities. I.1 \\ // grant enables the Museum to hire consultants)to assist in�the development of a preliminary collections move plan,highlighting the-current artifacts and aroliives in the collection and strategies for the relocation to the new facil'ityy.This is a one year grant and will be completed in November 2009. On July 10,2009,the Museum received written notice that it had been awarded a$149,672 Museum for America Grant from the Institute of Museums and Library Services. This grant enables the Museum to establish a Collection Move Team, prepare artifacts, and move archival materials and artifacts to the new museum facility. ORDINANCE NO. 091, 2009. OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS APPROPRIATING UNANTICIPATED GRANT REVENUE IN THE CULTURAL SERVICES FUND TO BE USED FOR MOVING THE ARCHIVE AND ARTIFACT COLLECTIONS TO THE NEW MUSEUM FACILITY WHEREAS, on November I, 2005, Fort Collins voters passed Ordinance No. 092, 2005, approving the "Building on Basics" ("BOB") tax for certain capital projects; and WHEREAS, included in the BOB capital projects is $6,000,000 for construction of a new combined-use facility in the Fort Collins downtown area for the Fort Collins Museum and the Discovery Science Center; and WHEREAS, this facility will be jointly owned, managed, and funded by the City and Discovery Science Center and will expand the educational experience ofcity residents by providing a broader array of scientific,cultural and historical exhibits in a single location,and will also provide an exciting new City amenity; and WHEREAS, the Fort Collins Museum has been awarded a Preservation Assistance Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities in the amount of$5,71 1; and WHEREAS, the Fort Collins Museum will use the Preservation Assistance Grant to hire consultants to assist in the development of a preliminary collections move plan; and WHEREAS, the Fort Collins Museum has also been awarded a Museum for America Grant from the Institute of Museums and Library Services in the amount of$149,672; and WHEREAS, the Fort Collins Museum will use the Museum for America Grant to establish a team to prepare artifacts and move archival materials and artifacts for the move to the new museum facility; and WHEREAS,Article V, Section 9, of the Charter of the City of Fort Collins permits the City Council to make supplemental appropriations by ordinance at any time during the fiscal year, provided that the total amount ofsuch supplemental appropriations,in combination with all previous appropriations for that fiscal year, does not exceed the current estimate of actual and anticipated revenues to be received during the fiscal year; and WHEREAS, City staff have determined that the appropriation of the revenue as described herein will not cause the total amount appropriated in the Cultural Services Fund to exceed the current estimate of actual and anticipated revenues to be received in that fund during any fiscal year. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT OR BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that there is hereby appropriated from unanticipated revenue in the Cultural Services Fund the sum of ONE HUNDRED FIFTY-FIVE THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED EIGHTY-THREE -----DOLLARS ($-1>j,383)-for-expend iture-in-the Cultural-Services-Fund-to-prepare-and-execute-the --- moving of archive and artifacts collections to the new museum facility.
