PROCLAMATION
City of Fort Collins
WHEREAS, Fort Collins is a diverse communitywith much history to be shared;and
WHEREAS,Hispanics have contributedto the economic vibrancyof the communityincluding
the railroad and sugar beet industries; and
WHEREAS,JohnB. Romero,an earlycontributorto those industries,built a four-room adobe
home between 1927 and 1935 for his wife,Inez Rivera Romero and their family; and
WHEREAS, John B. Romero provided assistance to and involvement with the Hispanic
community of Fort Collins between 1927 and his death in 1975; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 114, 2001 designated the John B. and Inez Romero House, 425
Tenth Street,Fort Collins, Colorado, a local landmark;and
WHEREAS, Mark Goldberg, through Fort Collins Partners I, LLC purchased the Romero
House and donated it to the Cityof Fort Collins in July2003 for the purpose of establishing a Hispanic
history museum and the City of Fort Collins subsequently leased the Romero House to the Poudre
Landmarks Foundation,Inc. to develop and manage the museum;and
WHEREAS, volunteers from the Amigos Committee have worked continuously since 2002
to restore, preserve and interpret the property and in July 2003 secured a grant from the Colorado
Historical Society to restore the exterior and interior of the original adobe structure; and
WHEREAS, the name of the Romero House site was changed in July2003 to Museo de las
Tres Colonias to better reflect the mission of the Amigos Committee to interpret Hispanic history
through furnishings and exhibits that highlight family life, working experiences and community
development within the Tres Colonias: Alta Vista,Andersonville and Buckingham
NOW THEREFORE, I, Doug Hutchinson, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim September 9,2006 as
MUSEO DE LAS TRES COLONIAS DAY
and urge all citizens to attend the Grand Opening of the Museo de las Tres Colonias on that day.
