PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, more than 5 million Americans are now living with Alzheimer's disease, a
figure that is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by mid-century if something is not done;and
o
WHEREAS, 10 million baby boomers will develop Alzheimer's disease in their lifetime
unless we find better treatments and a cure; and
WHEREAS,there are currently 72,000 people in Colorado living with Alzheimer's and that
number is expected to increase 140,000 by 2025; and
WHEREAS, early detection is critical to qualify for clinical trials and in order to receive
treatment medications and support from the Alzheimer's Association; and
WHEREAS,more research is needed in order to better understand Alzheimer's and develop
new ways to accurately diagnose and treat Alzheimer's.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Doug Hutchinson, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim the month of November 2009 as
NATIONAL ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH
and I encourage all citizens to be a part of raising awareness and understanding of the challenges
individuals and families face as well as the importance of early detection.
