Fort Collins
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, science is a vital part of a child's education in Fort Collins and is very
important to our state's future and economic development; and
WHEREAS,a first-rate science education is necessary for Fort Collins'children to compete
and succeed in the local and global marketplace; and
WHEREAS,Science Olympiad is a national organization that has been creating passion for
learning science, providing opportunities for learning teamwork, improving the quality of science
education, and celebrating outstanding student achievement in science and technology since 1984;
and
WHEREAS,Blevins Junior High School's Science Olympiad team has represented the State
of Colorado, Poudre School District and the City of Fort Collins at the National Science Olympiad
tournament for 5 of the past 6 years, most recently in Augusta, Georgia.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Doug Hutchinson, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim May 19, 2009 as
BLEVINS SCIENCE OLYMPIAD DAY
and encourage all citizens to recognize the importance of science education, supporting the youth
of our community in their pursuit of advanced science education, in order to prepare them to be the
scientists and engineers who will build the future of our nation.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort
Collins this 19th day of May, A.D. 2009.
