PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS,despite ongoing efforts to betterprotect child passengers in cars,motorvehicle
crashes remain the numberone cause ofaccidental injury-related death among children ages 14 and
under; and
WHEREAS, riding unrestrained is the greatest risk factor for death and injury among child
occupants of motor vehicles; and
WHEREAS,only 19 percent ofchildren who should be restrained in belt-positioning booster
seats actually use them; and
WHEREAS, child safety seats and safety belts, when installed and used correctly, can
prevent injuries and save lives; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of Child Passenger Safety Week 2006, Safe Kids USA will be
calling attention to the need for correct booster seat use and helping parents and caregivers
understand when it is safe for children to graduate to an adult-sized safety belt and will be
performing inspections and training parents and caregivers to install and adjust their car seats
properly.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Doug Hutchinson, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins do hereby
proclaim February 12-18, 2006 as
CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY WEEK
in the city of Fort Collins and call upon all the residents of Fort Collins to join with me in
supporting the efforts and activities of Safe Kids Coalition to prevent motor vehicle injuries and
deaths to our children.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort
