The general population is aging and soon the largest segment, "Boomers", will be "Seniors", and "Seniors, will soon be "Geriatrics". I hope to contribute in some way to solutions so that the same issues do not have to be solved over and over on an individual basis as each person and family faces aging and its inherent loss of independence physically, mentally, socially and sometimes spiritually. Telecommunications are a vital part of the information age As a younger member of the community and in a technical practice I believe I have both the interest and the capability to advise well in this area on behalf of the community at large This application was submitted online on: Sep-08-2008 09:27 PM Briefly explain what you believe are the three most important issues facing this board or commission, and how do you believe this board or commission should address each issue? t) 1 believe the first priority of the Telecommunications Board is to monitor the incumbent cable orovider's compliance with its franchise agreement with the city--specifically in the customer service area. 2) 1 believe the second priority should be a study of broadband access throughout the city and compared to other cities. In my former residence in southern Fort Collins. my only option for fast (better than 2 megabit)internet service was Comcast(over DSL and 2 wireless providers). With Comcast starting to provide usaae caps and the seemingly underdeveloped nature of Qwest's infrastructure, it may be time for Fort Collins to investigate and/or nrmmntP alternatives to the two majnr inrumhPnts 3) 1 believe the third priority of the Telecommunications Board should be to stay abreast of developments in the telecommunications area and be able to offer expertise in these areas Such areas might include VolP. IPv6 the FCC spectrum auction Comcast's rollout of DOCSIS 3 Qwest's rollout of ADSL2 Qwest Mnhile's transition to Verm7nn WirplPcs etr.
