City of Fort Collins PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, tolerance is a critical personal quality needed for lasting success; and
WHEREAS, we desire to build upon our heritage and make Fort Collins a place where
families are strong, homes and streets are safe, education is effective, business is productive,
neighbors care about one another and citizens are free to make wise choices for their lives and
families; and
WHEREAS, we recognize that the health of our community depends upon all of our
citizens being tolerant in their daily associations with their fellow citizens; and
WHEREAS, the tranquility and orderly operation and development of our city demands
that we implement the key concepts of tolerance—looking beyond and deeper than appearances,
giving others room to grow, examining our own motives and weaknesses, maintaining high
standards of maturity, motivating others to aspire to those standards, and responding
appropriately to issues and humanely to persons we encounter; and
WHEREAS, by following these suggestions, we as citizens can individually and
collectively recognize and relish the differences we encounter in others — in family, culture,
physical features, mental aptitudes, religion, and mortality—as we move boldly yetpatiently into
our developing future.
