Have you ever been convicted of a crime (except for minor traffic offenses that resulted only in a fine)? ❑ Yes X No
If yes, please explain in complete detail. State the nature and approximate date of the conviction, the sentence imposed,
whether the sentence has been completed, and any other information you consider to be relevant
Are you presently serving on a City board or commission? ❑ Yes XNo
If so, which one?
Why do you want to become a member of this particular board or commission? So that my son. technically my step- n,
who is 1/2 Hispanic can walk through any part of the city and not feel he is being stared out because of his
color. So that my other 2 kids are able to experience diverse cultures in our city.
Briefly explain what you believe are the three most important issues facing this board or commission, and how do you
believe this board or commission should address each issue?
t) Affirmative Action as discrimination. As a white male I have obserevd a growing concern over affirmative action,
more correctly the belief of what affirmative action is. Livinq in a community of mainly white men and women, I feel
the fear that those around me feel when this topic arrises. I believe that the people of Ft Collins need to be educated
on how, when, and if affirmative action requirments can affect them.Once educated I think we can reduce the fears
of those willing to listen.
2) In a community of our size why is the population of Afro-American's so low? Have we created a hostile enviornment
for individuals of color? If so, how far does this hostile enviornment spread, and to what cultures? Speak with
affected groups, evaluate the results and take action. In my experience, education is the key to reducing many of
these problems.
3) Hate or fear of the unknown. Ft Collins has a growing population gay residents. As of vet we have not had any manor
hate crimes,to my knowledge, against individuals who are gay.Although I believe it is only a matter of time. In the
last few years we have seen a new hate prow in the hearts of many, the hate or dislike of inividuals from the middle
east. Internal fear of the unknown sometimes is released in an inappropriate manner. Through education, we may
be able to avoid or reduce unhealthy releases of aggression.
List any abilities, skills, certificates, specialized training, or interests you have which are applicable to this
board or commission:
I am a father of two children, soon to be three. I am happily married.) am a Colorado POST certified Police Officer. I
have attended a variety of trainings in my career includinq reoccuring training in Cultural Diversity.I am a nut about
statistics and why they do or do not make sense.
Please specify any activities which might create a serious conflict of interest if you should be appointed to this board
or commission:
None
Have you attended a meeting of the board or commission you are applying to or talked to anyone currently on the board?
❑Yes XNo
Comments:
All applicants are strongly encouraged to attend a regularly scheduled meeting of the board or commission for which they
are applying. Frequent non-attendance may result in termination of the appointment
