PROCLAMATION
Citv of Fort Collins
WHEREAS, May 1st is Law Day in the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, the United States ofAmerica has been the citadel of individual liberty and
a beacon of hope and opportuid y for more than 200years to mat y millions who have sought our
shores; and
WHEREAS, the foundation of individual freedom and liberty is the body of law that
governs its; and
WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States of America and the Bill of Rights are
the heart of that body of law, which guarantees its many fi-eedoms—including freedom of religious
belief,freedom to have and hold property inviolate,fi-eedorn of assembly,freedom of speech,freedom
of press,freedom of petition, and due process of the law among others; and
WHEREAS, thisyear marks the 42nd annual nationwide observance of Law Day, and
the Congress of the United States and the President by official proclamation have set aside May
1 as a special day for recognition of the place of law in American life.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ra_y Martinez, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim May 1, 1999 as
LAW DAY
in the city of Fart Collins and call upon all citizens, schools, and businesses to commemorate the role
and importance of law in our lives.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort
Collins this 20th day of April, A.D. 1999.
