HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 10/04/2005 - PROCLAMATION PROCLAIMING OCTOBER, 2005 AS ''NATION Mayor 6a City of Fort Collins PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives of all Americans; and WHEREAS, the arts and humanities affect every aspect of life in America today including the economy, social problem solving,job creation, education, creativity, and community livability; and WHEREAS, the nation's 40,000 cultural organizations, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the nation's 4,000 local arts agencies, the arts and humanities councils of the 50 states and U.S.jurisdictions, and the President of the United States have participated in the past and will be asked to participate again this year in a national celebration for the arts and humanities; and WHEREAS, the United States Conference of Mayors has actively participated in National Arts and Humanities Month since 1984; and WHEREAS, through the efforts of the many local arts and cultural groups,Fort Collins appreciates and experiences the value and importance of culture in the lives of its citizens ; and WHEREAS, Fort Collins boasts 40 nonprofit arts groups, 27 art galleries and museums, and 20 arts and cultural festivals which annually return over$9 million to the local economy. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Doug Hutchinson, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2005 as NATIONAL ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTH in the city of Fort Collins and urge Fort Collins residents to participate in and to celebrate the cultural riches our community has to offer.
