RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends adoption of the Ordinance on Second Reading. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The documentation grants are awarded to tribal communities and museums for the purposes of documenting American Indian•collections currently held by institutions that have received federal funding. The grant is to be used to assist in the implementation of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act. The Museum will utilize the funds to hire a contract Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act ("NAGPRA") Coordinator to facilitate communication and consultation with tribes and to provide funds for consultation fees and travel expenses. Ordinance No. 108, 2001, was unanimously adopted on First Reading on June 19, 2001. The $70,040 will be disbursed on a reimbursement basis over an eighteen-month period. The Museum is requesting that Council appropriate the $70,040 into the Museum's NAGPRA grant project for use over the next two fiscal years, 2001 and 2002.
