PROCLAMATION
City of Fort Collins
WHEREAS, we the citizens of Fort Collins, Colorado,place high value on local control
when it comes to community services and therefore have chosen to operate a community-owned,
locally-controlled,not-for-profit electric utility and, as consumers and owners ofour electric utility,
have a direct say in utility operations and policies; and
WHEREAS, Fort Collins Utilities and Platte River Power Authority provide our homes,
businesses,social services and local government with reliable, environmentally responsible and low-
cost electricity; and
WHEREAS,Fort Collins Utilities and Platte River PowerA uthority are valuable community
assets that contribute substantially to the well-being of local citizens through energy efficiency,
customer service, environmental protection, economic development, and safety awareness; and
WHEREAS, concerns about electric power supplies in other states have renewed public
interest in, and appreciation for the concept of locally-controlled, community-owned public power
systems; and
• WHEREAS, as a community's electric power system, it is our essential purpose to work in
partnership with our customer-owners to furnish an essential public service, and the best customer
service to citizens at a low cost.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Martinez, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim that the week of October 6-12, 2002, be designated as the 16th annual
PUBLIC POWER WEEK
in the city of Fort Collins to honor Fort Collins Utilities and Platte River Power Authority's
consumer-owners,policy makers, and employees who work together to provide the best possible
electric service to our community.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort
Collins this 1st day of October, A. D. 2002.
