HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 10/21/2008 - PROCLAMATION DECLARING OCTOBER 2008 AS NATIONAL AR I Fort Collins PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the month of October has been recognized as National Arts and Humanities Month by thousands of arts and cultural organizations,communities,and states across the country, as well as by the White House and Congress for more than two decades; and WHEREAS,the arts and humanities embody much of the accumulated wisdom, intellect, and imagination of humankind; and WHEREAS, the arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives of every American; and WHEREAS,the nonprofit arts industry also strengthens our economy by generating$166.2 billion in total economic activity annually and by supporting the full-time equivalent of 5.7 million jobs; and WHEREAS, through the efforts of the many local arts and cultural groups, Fort Collins appreciates and experiences the value and importance of culture in the lives of its citizens; and WHEREAS, Fort Collins boasts 80 plus arts and cultural organizations, more than 25 art galleries and museums, and 20 arts and cultural festivals, and the arts annually return over $15.9 million to the local economy; and WHEREAS, the month of October 2008 has been designated as National Arts and Humanities Month. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Doug Hutchinson, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2008 as NATIONAL ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTH in Fort Collins and urge Fort Collins residents to participate in and to celebrate the cultural riches our community has to offer.
