City of Fort Collins PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, over two months ago a massive earthquake and resulting violent tsunamis
pummeled many countries surrounding the Indian Ocean and donations from around the world
immediately began pouring into these Asian nations to assist with relief efforts; and
WHEREAS, although reconstruction efforts are underway, continued aid and support will
be needed for quite some time; and
WHEREAS, Poudre School District(PSD)students from kindergarten through seniors in
high school have responded to the call to help those affected by this recent destruction and
devastation; and
WHEREAS, PSD students have found creative ways to raise money for the Tsunami relief
efforts by sponsoring read-a-thons; dances; carnivals; coin drives; battles of the grades; and
through various fundraising sales campaigns; and
WHEREAS, these local elementary,junior, and senior high students raised$58,000 and
together with the Bohemian Foundation matching funds will donate$116,000 to various agencies
to aid the relief efforts for tsunami victims.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Martinez, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim March 1, 2005 as
POUDRE SCHOOL DISTRICT K-12 STUDENT DAY
in the city of Fort Collins and wish to personally thank the Poudre School District students,faculty,
and staff for their recent "Wave of Relief'efforts to support tsunami victims and further recognize
the matching contribution made by the Bohemian Foundation.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort
Collins this 1st day of March, A.D. 2005.
