PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Engineers Week, currently presented by a formal coalition of more than 70
engineering, education, and cultural societies, and more than 50 corporations and government agencies,
was founded in the United States in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers; and
WHEREAS, Engineers Week is celebrated in February at the time of George Washington's
birthday, because he was an engineer as well as our nation's first president; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of Engineers Week is to raise public awareness and appreciation of the
engineering profession; and
WHEREAS, each year Engineers Week reaches thousands of schools, businesses, and community
groups across the United States; and
WHEREAS, the important efforts of engineers help drive our economy, protect our environment,
and ensure public safety; and
. WHEREAS, the engineers of the State of Colorado will actively help to maintain and sustain the
vital infrastructure of our civilized and natural environments; and
WHEREAS, engineers help America remain at the forefront of technological development and
contribute to countless breakthroughs that improve the quality of life for people throughout the world.
NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Ray Martinez, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim
February 20-26, 2005 as
NATIONAL ENGINEERS WEEK
in the city of Fort Collins.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort Collins this
