HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 05/03/2005 - PROCLAMATION PROCLAIMING MAY 5, 2005, AS ''NATIONA Mayor PROCLAMATION City of Fort Collins WHEREAS, the theme of this year's National Day of Prayer is "God Shed His Grace on Thee" inspired by Hebrews 4:16"Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need"; and WHEREAS, the United States has been experiencing an ever-increasing assault on religious freedom and the history of this great nation is indelibly marked with the role that prayer has played in the lives of individual Americans; and WHEREAS, it is altogether fitting that all citizens should pray for the preservation of those constitutional freedoms which ensure our right to gather publicly and lift our praises and requests heavenward; and WHEREAS, the National Day of Prayer is a tradition which dates back to the year 1775, when the event was first proclaimed by the Continental Congress and this year marks the 54th consecutive observance of the National Day of Prayer; and WHEREAS, the President, Governors, Mayors and our spiritual leaders are calling our nation to pray; and WHEREAS, this year's observance begins with a prayer breakfast at the Fort Collins Marriott from 6:45 - 8:30 a.m. and includes many other prayer events throughout the city with individuals and families praying for our nation, state and city. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Doug Hutchinson, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim Thursday, May 5, 2005 as NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER in the city of Fort Collins.
