HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 04/19/2005 - PROCLAMATION PROCLAIMING APRIL 6, 2005 AS ''COLORA Mayor 6a City of Fort Collins PROCLAMATION WHEREAS,April 6 has a special significance for all Americans, and especially those Americans of Scottish descent, because the Declaration of Arbroath, the Scottish Declaration oflndependence, was signed on April 6, 1320 and the American Declaration oflndependence was modeled on that inspirational document; and WHEREAS,almost halfof the signers ofthe Declaration oflndependence were of Scottish descent, the Governors in nine of the original 13 States were of Scottish ancestry, and Scottish Americans successfully helped shape this country in itsformativeyears andguide this Nation through its most troubled times; and WHEREAS, Scottish Americans should be recognized for their monumental achievements and invaluable contributions that have led to America's preeminence in the fields of science, technology, medicine,government,politics, economics, architecture, literature, media, and visual andperforming arts; and WHEREAS,there are more than 200 organizations throughout the United States that honor Scottish heritage, tradition, and culture, representing the hundreds of thousands ofAmericans of Scottish descent residing in the United States. NOW, THEREFORE,I, Ray Martinez,Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim April 6, 2005 was celebrated as Colorado Tartan Day in the city of Fort Collins and ask that the contributions ofthe numerous individuals, clans, societies, clubs and fraternal organizations of the Scottish people in our community do not go unnoticed.
