EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Ordinance No. 213, 1998,which was unanimously adopted on First Reading on December 15, 1998, amends the City Code by adding a new Division 2 to Article V of Chapter setting the 1999 compensation of Councilmembers at$515 and the compensation of the Mayor at $770. • AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY ITEM NUMBER: 21 DATE: December 15, 1998 • FORT COLLINS CITY COUNCIL STAFF: John Fischbach SUBJECT : First Reading of Ordinance No. 233, 1998,Adding a New Division 2 to Article V of Chapter 2 of the City Code Relating to Councilmember Compensation. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends adoption of the Ordinance onF#st Readings EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Article II, Section 3 of the City Charter provides that, commencing in 1998,the compensation of Councilmembers shall be $500 per month and the:compensation,;of the Mayor shall be $750 per month. In addition, the amounts of�compensation are to be ajusted annually for inflation in accordance with the Denver/Boulder ConsumerPniie Index. This Ordinance amends the City Code by adding a new Division 2 to Article V of Chapter setting the 1999 compensation of Councilmembers at$515 and the compensation of the Mayor at $770. BACKGROUND: At the April 8, 1997 election,the electorate of the City of Fort Collins approved an amendment to the City Charter setting the compensation of Councilmembers and the Mayor at $500 and $750, respectively. In addition, the Charter amendment added language to the provision on Council compensation requiring the amounts of compensation to be adjusted annually for inflation in accordance with the Denver/Boulder Consumer,Price Index.' Staff has prepared this compensation adjustment in the form of an addition to the City Code so as to facilitate future adjustments.
