City of Fort Collins PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS,sound town planning has made valuable contributions to the quality of our community
and surrounding environment; and
WHEREAS,town planning reminds us of community-wide needs, the significance of neighborhoods,
the need for personal involvement in community policy making, the fragile nature of the environment, the
value of historic buildings and places as a legacy of previous generations, and the necessity to consider
future impacts in community and regional development; and
WHEREAS, World Town Planning Day will be celebrated in 30 countries on four continents on
November 8, 2004, and is sponsored by the American Planning Association (APA) and its professional
institute, the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP); and
WHEREAS, this special day has been set aside to recognize and promote the role of planning in
creating livable communities and to point out the valuable contributions that town planning has made in
our world and community; and
WHEREAS, it is important to take time to honor everyone involved in the planning process,
includingplanners, elected and appointed officials,and citizens,all ofwhom are integral to creatinga sense
of place in our neighborhoods and community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Martinez, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim November
8, 2004
WORLD TOWN PLANNING DAY
in the city of Fort Collins, and call upon the community to join their fellow citizens across the world in recognizing
and participating in this special observance.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF,I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort Collins this 19th
