HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL - PROCLAMATION - 06/03/2008 - PROCLAMATION DECLARING JUNE 2008 AS THE CELEBRATIO City of Fart Collins PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, in 1882, Fort Collins did not have a reliable source of water for fire protection or household use; and WHEREAS, several devastating fires in the early 1880s caused eligible voters to approve an $85,000 bond issue to build the first municipal water system; and WHEREAS, work began in November 1882 under the direction of City Engineer H. P. Handy, whose leadership caused work to be completed in May 1883; and WHEREAS, during the first week of June 1883, Fort Collins officials performed several water pressure test in the town's business district; and WHEREAS, 125 years since Fort Collins successfully tested this water delivery system, the Poudre Landmarks Foundation, Inc., and its auxiliary, the Friends of the Water Works, invite the community to attend reenactments of this test at 10 a.m. and noon, Saturday, June 7, at 2005 North Overland Trail. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Doug Hutchinson, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim Saturday, June 7, 2008 as the BIG SPLASH: THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1882-1883 FORT COLLINS WATER WORKS in the city of Fort Collins and call upon the community to join their fellow citizens in recognizing and participating in this special observance.
