City of Fort Collins PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Mariah Thomas, a student at Poudre High School, has achieved national
recognition for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a 1999 Pnidential Spirit of Community
Award, and
WHEREAS, Mariah received grant funds to develop and teach "Tomorrow's Leaders,"a
nine-week curriculum geared to second grade elementary students which includes self esteem,
healthy choices and problem solving, and
WHEREAS, "Tomorrow's Leaders" is being taught for a second year and it is Mariah's
hope that other youth will continue to teach this curriculum after she graduates, and
WHEREAS, the success and strength ofourcommunity, and the overall vitality ofAmerican
society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication ofyoung people like Mariah Thomas who use
their considerable talents and resources to serve others.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Martinez, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim April 20, 1999 as
MARIAH THOMAS
PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY RECOGNITION DAY
in the city of Fort Collins and ask the community to recognize Mariah for heroutstandingvolunteer
contribution to our community.
