Woodson, the father of Black History, developed and incorporated a program for recognizing the accomplishments of black individuals; and WHEREAS,the Ojfzce ofBlack Student Services and Colorado State University,play a vital role in assisting and providing the Fort Collins community with diverse programming; and WHEREAS, Wednesday, February 2, 2005, marks the official start of the celebration of Black History Month; and WHEREAS,this month-long celebration will include cultural activities such as educational presentations, collaborative community programs, and motivational speakers; and WHEREAS, these celebrations provide cultural awareness and knowledge throughout the community; and WHEREAS,the theme ofthis month-long celebration is "African Diaspora: TheDispersing of Africans. " NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Martinez, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim the month of February 2005 as BLACK HISTORY MONTH in the city offort Collins and urge all residents to participate in scheduled events.
