Resolution 2004-015 Making Appointments to the Commission on the Status of Women.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends adoption of the Resolution.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Vacancies currently exist on the Commission on the Status of Women due to the resignations of
Cecilia Altizer and Lee Varra-Nelson. Councilmembers Weitkunat and Tharp interviewed applicants
and are recommending Beth Etter and Stacey Arnold to fill the vacancies with terms to begin
immediately and to expire on December 31, 2007.

OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
MAKING APPOINTMENTS TO THE
COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN
WHEREAS, vacancies currently exist on the Commission of Status of Women due to the
resignations of Cecilia Altizer and Lee Varra-Nelson; and
WHEREAS, Council wishes to fill said vacancies.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that the following named persons are hereby appointed as a members of the Commission
on the Status of Women,with terms to begin immediately and to expire as set forth after each name:

Studies in my undergraduate and oraduate studies Now that I am workino in the business sector I would like

Briefly explain what you believe are the three most important issues facing this board or commission, and how do you
believe this board or commission should address each issue?
1) This commission is a voice for women who are underserved, homeless, and/or abused. Because of
this, the commission has a responsibility to ensure that issues related to these women (health. childcare. safety)
are discussed in both City Council meetings and in oublic. The commission can keep track of what programs are
currently available for women and what Droa rams maybe instituted to assist women. Further. the commission can
visit locations where underserved women go and see which programs are working and which oroorams can be r .vamner
2) -Outreach to young women is another important issue for this commission. Besides the annual essay
contest, it is important that young women hear about the commission and about the personal political and career
oossibilities for women The commission can provide insight and motivation to young women by sponsoring educational

3) The third important issue for this commission is to ensure the viability and strenath of the
Commission on the Status of Women, This an be done by fosterina community awareness about the commission and
its interests working with Colorado State University and the Women's Studies program ouraoigg the }
