AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY DATE: May 20, 200s
FORT COLLINS CITY COUNCIL STAFF: Anne Aspen
SUBJECT
Resolution 2008-047 Naming an Alley Located in Downtown Fort Collins the"Montezuma Fuller
Alley."
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends approval of the Resolution.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The alley naming will allow buildings to have legal entries on the alley. It will simplify driving
directions for residents, emergency personnel and delivery people.
BACKGROUND
This is a citizen-initiated request to name a downtown alley. The naming will allow legal addresses
on the alley. It will simplify driving directions for residents, emergency personnel and delivery
people. The naming will not change any existing addresses.
The Downtown Development Authority(DDA)is currently engaged in master planning downtown
alley improvements. Because of the proposed hotel and conference center and the connections with
Old Town Square, this alley will likely be a high priority project. The DDA supports the naming
of this alley.
Montezuma Fuller was a prominent architectural designer who influenced the character of Fort
Collins'downtown. Included in his repertoire are the Drake House at Magnolia and Remington and
the Alpert Block at 140-142 South College. Both of these buildings, which still stand, would be on
the named alley. His other notable accomplishments in Fort Collins include the Edwards House,
the Mosman House and the Avery Block.
Review of the request has followed the Current Planning Department's procedures for this sort of
request and has met the City's requirements. It has been routed to property owners and all of the
City Utilities, Poudre Fire Authority, and outside utility providers including the US Postal Service
for review and approval. All respondents indicated that they had no problems or concerns with the
proposed change.
