City of Fort Collins PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the theme ofthis year's National Day of Prayer is "Let Freedom Ring"inspired by
Leviticus 25:10 ". . .proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants"; and
WHEREAS, the United States has been experiencing an ever-increasing assault on religious
freedom and the history of this great nation is indelibly marked with the role that prayer has played in
the lives of individual Americans; and
WHEREAS, it is altogether fitting that all citizens should pray for the preservation of those
constitutional freedoms which ensure our right to gather publicly and lift our praises and requests
heavenward; and
WHEREAS, the National Day of Prayer is a tradition which dates back to the year 1775, when
the event was first proclaimed by the Continental Congress and this year marks the 53rd consecutive
observance of the National Day of Prayer; and
WHEREAS, the President, Governors, Mayors and our spiritual leaders are calling our nation
to pray; and
WHEREAS, this year's observance begins with a prayer breakfast at the Fort Collins Marriott
from 7:00-8:30 a.m. and concludes at the Christ Center Community Church(at the corner of Drake and
Lemay),with individuals and families praying for our nation, state, and city from 6:00- 7:30 p.m.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Martinez, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim
Thursday, May 6, 2004 as
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
in the city of Fort Collins.
