Please call416-2525 for assistance. Signature, Date.. 28 " c3 Why do you want to become a member of this particular board or commission? I received my BA in Sociology from CSU in May of 2003. It was in this program that I learned the serious impact on life chances for those of a lower socioeconomic class. I contributed heavily in helping others at CSU for this reason among many others. Now that I have graduated,I am working to transition my work over to the city. As I was discussing my desire to make Fort Collins a more inclusive city that meets its citizens'needs with Alfred Flores,he suggested that this would be a good place for me to contribute. I am a long-standing resident of 14 years with a lot of heart and energy to give. I am interested in working for the city and contributing positively to social change;especially for the lower income people of Fort Collins. The three most important issues facing this board,in my opinion, are: 1. The allocation of scarce resources for human services in Fort Collins. Many people are completing for these resources and it is hard to meet all of their perceived needs. This can be addressed by really learning about what each service does, how they do it,how many they serve, and by going out to their facility and getting the feel for what it is that they do. I would also encourage groups to form partnerships. 2. People below the 50%median income level are not being served as well as they could. It would be interesting to see if there are small initiatives that could be designed and implemented to address these needs. Again, partnerships are important and perhaps some of the human service agencies could develop small programs or heightened communication to address these needs. 3. One issue/opportunity that could be looked at with regard to non-profits is to see how they might do things differently. For example,a few years ago,non-profits were all developing their own phone services to meet their clients needs. This was very expensive. As a result,First Call assists in the community's needs and there is now less individual phone services that need funding. 1400 WEST ELIZABETH STREET #324 FORT COLLINS CO 80521 PHONE 970.308.5519 • E-MAIL SUNSHINE WORKMAN®HOTMAIL.COM SUNSHINE WORKMAN EDUCATION BA, Sociology Minor in Ethnic Studies Colorado State University, May 2003 • Cumulative GPA 3.2 • Certificate from Colorado State University Leadership Institute • Financed entire education independently AWARDS Qvv"s of Character Auunl- Otmber 2002 • First recipient for a campus-wide program initiated by the President's office.
