RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends adoption of the Resolution. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This is a staff-initiated street name change. Shearwater is a duplicate street name. Staff recommends that Shearwater Court be renamed to Swift Court. BACKGROUND The existing local residential street, Shearwater Court, is within the Fossil Lake P.U.D. - Swift Addition, which was a development approved by Larimer County in March of 2003, and subsequently annexed into the City in July of 2003. The County inadvertently approved the name Shearwater Court within the development without confirming whether or not there was a duplicate name. Upon annexation, the City inherited this situation. There is already a Shearwater Drive in Fort Collins, so to avoid a duplicate name, it needs to be changed. The developer is the only affected property owner, and has been notified. No building permits have been issued yet on Shearwater Court. The name Swift Court was chosen by the developer of the neighborhood to honor Louis Swift, a previous owner of the property who had farmed it, and who recently passed away. RESOLUTION 2004-021 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS RENAMING SHEARWATER COURT TO SWIFT COURT WHEREAS, Shearwater Court is located within the Fossil Lake P.U.D.- Swift Addition which was approved by Larimer County in March,2003,and subsequently annexed into the City in July, 2003; and WHEREAS, the County approved the name of"Shearwater Court" for a street within said development without confirming whether there was a duplicate name within the City; and WHEREAS, at the time of County approval of said development, there already existed "Shearwater Drive" in the City and, in order to avoid duplicate street names, the name "Shearwater Court" needs to be changed; and WHEREAS, the developer has suggested the name "Swift Court" to replace the name "Shearwater Court"in order to honor the memory of the late Louis Swift, the previous owner of said property; and WHEREAS,the Council has determined that it is in the best interest of the City that the name "Shearwater Court" be changed to "Swift Court". NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the name"Shearwater Court",a local residential street within the Fossil Lake P.U.D.- Swift Addition, is hereby changed to "Swift Court".
