3. Mason Transportation Corridor—Project Update/Downtown Issues (7:30 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.)
A current issue facing the design team is reaching a decision on the appropriate design elements
for the Downtown segment of the Mason Transportation Corridor (MTC). Of particular
importance is whether or not the City should return the current Mason/Howes one-way couplet
street system back to two 2-way streets.
Another issue is to determine the appropriate design elements in the Downtown segment to
balance the safety needs for all modes of transportation(autos, bicycles, pedestrians, trains, etc.)
as well as incorporate features which reflect the preferred ambiance of the downtown area. Staff
would like to have input from Council on its thoughts for this segment of the MTC so that staff
can move forward in the Preliminary Engineering & Environmental Analysis process.
