City of Fort Collins PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, from May to September is the season most commonly associated with
thunderstorms which produce flask flooding,• and
WHEREAS, Fort Collins has experienced the physical and emotional consequences of loss
of life and damage to property caused by disasters such as floods; and
WHEREAS, emergency preparedness depends on the leadership and efforts of public
officials, dedicated volunteers, and government officials; and
WHEREAS, preparedness for emergencies and disasters requires the establishment of
farsighted and publicized public policy; and
WHEREAS, by being informed and prepared by heeding warning and taking proper
protective action, the people of Fort Collins can reduce the loss of life and damage to property when
threatened by these events.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Martinez, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim the week of July 15-21, 2000 as
FLOOD AWARENESS WEEK
in the city of Fort Collins.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort
