PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins is dedicated to developing a safe, efficient, and
balanced transportation system incorporating many modes of travel; and
WHEREAS, City Plan promotes a walking environment that is safe,secure, and convenient
for pedestrians in order to support all other travel choices; and
WHEREAS, City leaders, agencies, businesses, and residents cooperatively work together
to encourage the design and construction of more pedestrian friendly streets and intersections;and
WHEREAS,agencies, educators,parents,and caregivers should help to educate pedestrians
and motorists about pedestrian safety and awareness ofthe difficulties and dangers thatpedestrians
face each day; and
WHEREAS,the benefits ofwalking are numerous for personal health and the overall health
of the community; and
WHEREAS, children,parents, and community leaders are joining together nationwide on
October 8, 2003 for "Walk to School Day" to evaluate pedestrian safety in neighborhoods.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Martinez, Mayor of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby
proclaim the month of October, 2003 as
PEDESTRIAN MONTH
in the city of Fort Collins and encourage the residents of this city to consider the safety of
pedestrians today and everyday.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Fort
