COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
July 10, 1986
5:00 P.M.
A special meeting of the Council of the City of Fort Collins was held on
Thursday, July 10, 1986, in the Council Information Center of the New
Municipal Building, 300 West LaPorte Avenue, Fort Collins, Colorado. Roll
call was answered by the following Councilmembers: Estrada, Horak,
Liebler, Ohlson, Rutstein and Stoner.
Staff Members Present: Burkett, Krajicek, Eckman
Also Present: Council Candidates Ron Meyer and Mike Blea.
Council Candidate Interviews
Mayor Ohlson announced that two candidates for the at -large vacancy created
by the resignation of Jay April, Ari Michelsen and Wells Jackson, had
withdrawn their names from consideration. He noted Council had had the
opportunity to review the video tapes of the interviews of the other 14
' candidates from the two previous processes and would be considering those
individuals as well as the two new applicants.
Council then conducted interviews with the two new applicants, Ron Meyer
and Mike Blea. Mr. Blea and Mr. Meyer each gave opening statements
followed by Council questions.
At the completion of the interviews, Councilmember Estrada suggested each
Councilmember write three names down and that all those listed be
considered. The field was narrowed to the following seven applicants:
Dean Duncan Dave Neenan
Bob Winokur Susan Kirkpatrick
Carol Podmore Bruce Lockhart
Tom Redder
Each Councilmember then spoke on the qualities they were looking for in a
new Councilmember.
Through several straw polls, the field was narrowed to three candidates,
Susan Kirkpatrick, David Neenan, and Bob Winokur.
At the conclusion of lengthy discuss.i'on on the three candidates,
Councilmember Liebler made a motion, seconded by Councilmember Rutstein, to
direct staff to insert the name of Susan' Kirkpatrick in the Resolution
' scheduled for July 15 appointing an individual to fill the at -large vacancy
created by the resignation of Jay April.

Yeas: Councilmembers Estrada, Horak, Liebler, Ohlson and Rutstein. Nays
Councilmember Stoner.
THE MOTION CARRIED.
Adjournment
Councilmember Rutstein made a motion, seconded by Councilmember Stoner, to
adjourn the meeting. Yeas: Councilmembers Estrada, Horak, Liebler, Ohlson,
Rutstein and Stoner. Nays: None.
THE MOTION CARRIED.
The meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
